About Endeavors

Promoting the Independence of Adults Living with Disabilities Since 1965

Endeavors Adult Development Center, Inc. is a service-oriented, non-profit organization specializing in programs for adults with special needs ranging from mild to the most significant disabilities. Our Day Services program is one of the few in the region for individuals living with the most severe disabilities. We serve our amazing participants as we facilitate their personal growth and service in and to the area communities.

History of Endeavors

Endeavors Adult Development Center, Inc. was established in 1965, initially providing educational programs in a school basement in Wanderoos, Wisconsin. We eventually moved 13 miles north to share a building with the Polk County Special Education Center, Balsam Lake, and became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1982.

Endeavors is licensed with the State Department of Workforce Development. We are 1 of only 63 certified community rehabilitation programs in Wisconsin.

In 2003, Endeavors moved to its current location in Balsam Lake, which we rent from Polk County. This building was specifically designed for our program to enhance the strengths, capabilities and personal growth of the adults we serve and represented collaboration between our Board and staff with Polk County Government. Building features include:

  • a heated swimming pool and whirlpool
  • work stations for the adults with retractable electricity and compressed air
  • a loading dock
  • a large lunch and break room for the adults
  • a nurse’s room
  • a “quiet” room
  • a space with a simulated apartment
